2026 Income Tax Return: the campaign is underway
The april 10, 2026
As is the case every year, spring marks the return of an unmissable event for French taxpayers: the income tax return. The 2026 campaign, covering income received in 2025, officially began on 9 April and follows the same format as in previous years. Although this reporting obligation applies to the vast majority of households, it still raises questions. Here are the key dates, new tax measures and points to bear in mind.
The tax return timetable
As in previous years, the online tax return service has been open since 9 April 2026. Online filing is mandatory if the taxpayer has a main residence with internet access and is able to file online. As in previous years, the filing deadlines are staggered according to the department of residence:
- Zone 1 (departments 01 to 19 and non-residents): 21 May 2026 at 11.59 pm
- Zone 2 (departments 20 to 54): 28 May 2026 at 11.59 pm
- Zone 3 (departments 55 to 974/976): 4 June 2026 at 11.59 pm
- Non-residents: 21 May 2026 at 11.59 pm
For paper returns, the deadline for submission is 19 May 2026 at 11.59 pm, regardless of the taxpayer’s place of tax residence.
Tax adjustments for 2026
Against a backdrop of persistent inflation, the income tax scale has been adjusted to prevent an automatic increase in taxation. Here is the new scale for the 2026 tax return:
|

Tax rate for the income bracket |
|
Up to €11,600 |
0 % |
|
From €11,601 to €29,579 |
11 % |
|
From €29,580 to €84,577 |
30 % |
|
From €84,578 to €181,917 |
41 % |
|
Over €181,917 |
45 % |
Among the changes is also the update to the ceiling linked to the family quotient, which is capped this year at:
- €1,807 for each additional half-share,
- €904 for each additional quarter-share.
The French tax system remains a complex, technical environment with a multitude of specific features. As part of a comprehensive wealth management approach, filing a tax return should not be viewed merely as a formality, but also as a tool for strategic optimisation.
