End of the tax return: beware of unpleasant surprises!

The may 28, 2025

Every year, it's the same old story: the tax return period is coming to an end, and many people find themselves with unpleasant surprises. Between declarative errors, undervalued withholding tax or lack of solutions acting on taxation; Some taxpayers find themselves forced to dip into their savings to pay the balance of the tax owing. This burden, which they thought they had smoothed out over the year, can cause a hole in their savings, impacting their lifestyle and their projects. But what can be done to protect yourself from this disappointment? The Finankap Group team takes stock of the taxpayer's main means of avoiding high regularization.

Did you make a mistake in your declaration? Don't panic, a change in your tax return is always possible after receiving your tax notice and before the end of the calendar year. Regarding the regularization, a schedule (with the dates and amounts of the deductions) is included in your notice. It takes place during the last quarter of the year and the balance of the adjustment is automatically debited from the bank account communicated to the tax authorities.

NB: You can even make corrections to the last 3 tax returns by making a request for modification which, if accepted, will allow you to receive a refund from the tax authorities in the event of a tax return that is too high.

For the withholding tax, it is automatically modified in September or January of each year according to your previous declaration. However, it will be wise to adjust it manually in the event of a change in your professional or family situation. In addition, although effective, withholding tax does not always cover all the tax due, especially when you receive dividends, property income or exceptional bonuses.

Finally, if you want to implement solutions that affect your taxation, they can only impact the year of implementation and the following years. But it is not retroactive, so it is in no way possible to act on the current year's declaration since it is based on the previous calendar year. And this is where anticipation becomes key. Too often, we wait until autumn to worry about payment, when everything is played out well in advance. As experts, we advise our clients to integrate taxation into their wealth strategy. Whether it is a question of adjusting direct debits, setting up scheduled payments on tax solutions, or simply making provisions in a dedicated account, the idea is to avoid the hammer blow.

Our role at Finankap Group is not just to advise, but to prepare. Proactive management means less stress and more control. Taxation, properly managed, should never come as a surprise.

Finankap Group, always at your side to bring your desires to life.
